1968 Tiger Football Team to be honored Nov 2

Fifty years ago, the Tiger football team accomplished a feat that had not happened before in their history. This squad of Tigers became the first Dripping Springs eleven-man football team to win a district title. DS had moved up to eleven-man in 1951 and had struggled since then in their quest for such a title. All the pieces fell into place as they went undefeated in district, 8-2 on the season, won the Bi-district game with Brackett before losing a hard-fought battle with Banquette for Regional (as far as Class B teams could advance). Since this falls within the decade history games chronicled during the season, you can follow the progress of this team.

The 1968 team will be honored at the game in Tiger Stadium on November 2. Mark your calendars.

Members of the team were Mike Arnold, Cole Bonnett, Paul Freitag, Bill Garnett, Randy Garnett (deceased), Roy Gay, Monte Glosson, Allen Halm (deceased), Chester Kalinowska, Pat Lyle, Leon Mc-Intyre (deceased), John Murray, Ray Nevarez, Joe Ramirez, Jimmy Rice, Dennis Sansom, Terry Sansom, Ricky Scheiffer, Poe Shelton, Bob Speir, Donnie Stigler, Jimmy Stigler, Ray Whisenant, Joe Williamson. Head coach: Oran “Pug” Rippy; Asst: Carl Waits.

Ray Whisenant is heading up the search committee. If you know any of these or their whereabouts, please pass this along to them and have them get in contact with Ray ([email protected]) so he can make the appropriate plans.
