Philip Brownlow Terrell

Philip Brownlow Terrell, 78, of Dripping Springs, TX, formerly of Oklahoma and Houston, TX, went to be with the Lord and joined his parents in Heaven on July 13, 2018 in Austin, TX after a lengthy and courageous battle with dementia and lung cancer. He was born in Caldwell, KS on November 26, 1939 to T. F. “Ted” and Lenora Leslie Terrell. His family lived in Medford, Stillwater and Tulsa, OK where they joined the Presbyterian Church. Phil’s father was promoted with P. Lorillard Company which brought the family to Houston in 1953. They joined St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church where he was active in sports and other youth activities including serving as a camp counselor at Camp Cho-Yeh and Mo Ranch. He attended Pershing Junior High and graduated from Bellaire High School in 1958 where he played football. His education continued at Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, TX where he graduated before attending The University of Texas at Austin becoming an avid UT fan. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Phil married Jeanne Graves on June 16, 1962 at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church. In the early years, he worked for Underwood Corporation, Standard Register Company and Cameron Iron Works. In 1969 he discovered his niche as a Systems Analyst and then Project Manager in the infancy of Information Technology with The Coastal Corporation which required he move the family to Corpus Christi, TX. Coastal relocated the family back to Houston in 1973 until his retirement in 1999. After retiring, Phil and Jeanne relocated to Dripping Springs in 2001 where they became founding members of Dripping Springs Presbyterian Church where he was active with various activities and was an original member in the Friday Morning Men’s Group. He was also active with the American Legion and the Deer Creek Parks and Lakes Association. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jon. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Jeanne and children Dayn, Wesley (Debbie), Leslie (Adrian) Rodriguez, six grandchildren, one great grandson and a 2nd great grandson due any day. He is also survived by his brother Smitty (Laurie), sister TeRisa Terrell Brown, sister in law Joyce Trlicek, his uncles Lloyd (Glenda) and Dale Leslie and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A special acknowledgment to his children, Debbie Terrell and Sandra McReynolds for the care given to Phil these last few years.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Harrell Funeral Home in Dripping Springs, Hwy 290W & 100 Heritage Dr., Austin. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the Dripping Springs Presbyterian Church, 26650 RR12, Dripping Springs. Burial will follow in Phillips Cemetery.
