June Emma Louise Polk (Billings)

June 1, 1930 – December 2, 2019

June Emma Louise Polk (Billings) of Dripping Springs, TX passed away to be with Jesus and all his angels calling her to come home on December 2, 2019.  Born on June 1, 1930 (hence her first name June) to William Edward Billings and Minnie P. Wendt Billings in Freer, Texas.  She was raised in Freer and San Saba, Texas but moved with her family to Buda, TX when she was fifteen.  While attending Buda High School she caught the eye of W. J. “Dick” Polk.  They fell in love and married on November 30, 1946.  June and Dick raised their family mainly in the Austin area but spent some years in San Antonio.

June and Dick owned Tasty Sandwiches in mid 1950’s with June being the head sandwich chef and Dick making deliveries all over Austin.  She made the best beef salad sandwich ever.  In the early 1960’s Dick opened Polk’s Feed and gas station in Oak Hill, TX.  June started the sandwich business again named Emma Sandwiches in the kitchen at Polk’s Feed with all the kids helping until the late 1960’s.

She was a loving wife and mother and great friend to many. Her favorite pastimes included vegetable and flower gardening, canning, painting, hunting, fishing and loving on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Living in the country most of her years gave her an appreciation of nature and all God’s creatures. There was always something interesting to do at her home and a good cup of coffee to be enjoyed. In retirement years she and Dick had fun traveling with RV friends all over the US just seeing the sights or going to bluegrass festivals. Also playing bingo at the VFW hall in Wimberley on Friday nights was a delight, win or lose.

Her parents, husband Dick, son-in-law Cecil Touchstone, brothers Rector, Pat, Carter and Wesley Billings, sisters Dora Trainer and Amy Shanks plus in-laws Archie and Leona Polk preceded her in death.

Her sister Jean Hail of Camarillo, CA; children Elaine Touchstone; Ann and Charlie Jones; Dale Polk and Karen and Randy Krumm; grandchildren Melaini Touchstone, Chris Valdez, Cassie Menard, Jinni Walker, Cheryl Kyle, Travis Krumm and Rebecca Sloan and twelve great grandchildren survive her.  Brothers-in-laws Kenneth Polk and Paul Polk plus many nieces and nephews also survive her.

A memorial celebration of her life will be held at Charlie and Ann Jones home on December 28, 2019 at 3:00 PM.  Please contact a family member for directions.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to the scholarship fund of the Pearl Book Cottage, c/o Linda Ray, 1771 CR 152 Purmela, TX 76566.  We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Baylor Scott and White, Lakeway, TX for their care and compassion.  Also thank you to all the nurses and personnel with Heart to Heart Hospice Care for their gentleness and caring of our mother.
