Bill Ferrick Obit 1925 – 2018

Willard “Bill” Yates Ferrick Sr., 93, passed away Oct. 16, 2018, surrounded by family. Bill was preceded in death by one brother, Martin Joseph Jr. and his wife of 67 years, Alice Heiligenthal Ferrick. He is survived by his children, Willard Yates Ferrick, Jr. of Henly, John Michael Ferrick of Austin, and Alice Forbes Maurer of Dripping Springs.

Bill was born Sept. 25, 1925, in East St. Louis, Ill., to Martin Joseph Sr. and Helen Lynnette Ferrick. In the mid-30’s his family moved to Texas and Bill graduated from Austin High in 1943. That same year he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He pledged Pi Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Pi fraternities at University of Texas, where, in 1950 he earned his bachelors degree.

Bill and Alice, both U.T. students at the time, married in 1947. The couple became founding members of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Austin where Bill lead Boy Scout Troop #1. Also a founding member of The Austin World Affairs Council, Bill was, for 25 years, Chief Financial Officer for the family business, Heiligenthal Imports.

When the Ferricks moved to Dripping Springs in 1994, they soon found a new church family at Holy Spirit Episcopal, then held in the double-wide facility just outside of town. Bill served as treasurer and choir member for about 10 years.

Bill also served as a trustee for Dripping Springs Community Library and as a faithful volunteer for Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce.

A memorial service will be held Nov. 18, 2018, at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 301 Hays County Acres Road, Dripping Springs, at 2 p.m. Donations may be made in Bill’s name to Dripping Springs Community Library.
