Walt Smith wins Precinct Four Commissioners Court seat

Dripping Springs, Republican Precinct 4 candidate Walt Smith readily defeated Democrat Omar Baca by a margin of more than 1,000 votes, 11,519 (51.38 percent) to 10,309 (45.98 percent). 

Smith was endorsed by outgoing Precinct 4 Commissioner Republican Ray Whisenant, who did not to run for re-election. In a post-election comment, Whisenant expressed his ongoing support of Smith and congratulated Smith on his victory. “Citizens of Hays County Precinct 4, In my humble opinion, our newly elected Commissioner is qualified, capable and dedicated to serving you and our fellow Hays County citizens. Walt Smith is already displaying good judgement and his willingness to be accessible as well as accountable. Thank you for your past support of my tenure. I sincerely hope you will be as helpful to your new Commissioner. Congratulations to you Walt and our most sincere thanks to your wife and family. Respectfully,

Smith released his own post-election win comment. “After a year and a half of campaigning, I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves and get to work on behalf of Precinct Four. I can’t say thank you enough to so many who helped me get to this point. I take the servant’s responsibility our community has entrusted to me very seriously and appreciate your confidence,” Smith said.
