“The facility will house offices for our business with owners of Texas wineries, and an ambient indoor/outdoor area for the public to taste and enjoy over 55 Texas wines,” Truly President Larry Epp said.

Dripping Springs City Council approved a Conditional Use Permit to allow onsite sale and consumption of alcohol at the property located at 400 W. Hwy 290, Building D, at its May 14thmeeting. The site, currently an empty lot,  is expected to become the Truly (Texas Grown Wine) Cellars Tasting Room.

“The facility will house offices for our business with owners of Texas wineries, and an ambient indoor/outdoor area for the public to taste and enjoy over 55 Texas wines,” Truly President Larry Epp said.

The CUP was passed unanimously by all city council members present, despite some concerns about the venue meeting city parking requirements. The CUP, as approved, requires Truly to meet city code parking requirements. The CUP was recommended for approval by the Planning & Zoning Commission.

Mayor Pro Tem Bill Foulds expressed concerns about any solution involving “shared parking” with another business, which was a possible solution mentioned. “In my opinion, we’re putting the cart before the horse if we don’t have parking,” Foulds said. “Shared parking in my little world doesn’t work. I own a business, and it hasn’t worked for me. It could also adversely affect business deliveries.”

Council member Wade King responded that Foulds' business is a daytime business and that different conditions for parking applied. “This is a night time business where people are migrating, walking up and down the street.”

With the CUP approved, construction of the Truly Cellars Tasting Room is expected to begin this summer, with the new venue opening in the fall, according to Jon Thompson who is working with the Truly business owner.

After the vote, Epp expressed his enthusiasm in moving forward with the venue. “Truly is looking forward to joining the business owners on the street where ‘Destination Dripping Springs’ began, to getting to know each, and to bringing new and seasoned  Patrons of Texas wine to our new flagship in the Texas Hill Country,” Epp said. “We will educate, enthuse, and empower Patrons of Texas wine about Texas-grown wines -- those made in Texas from grapes grown in Texas.”
