Trick-or-Treating at Hill Country Care
Elvis Presley, along with ghosts and goblins, stood outside the doors to Hill Country Care with their mothers, waiting for the doors to open so that they could begin trick or treating.
The annual Trick-or-Treat event at Hill Country Care Rehab and Nursing Center (HCC), now in its ninth year, drew hundreds of kids and their families on Halloween, with the line extending down the side of the building.
“We have former trick-or-treaters, who are now parents, bringing their own children to our event,” Cindy Kendall, Administrator at HCC said. “The residents really look forward to this, and the kids have a great time too.”
For many, this was the smart way to hit the motherload of candy, without getting wet during a wet and storm Halloween. The way it worked is this- the residents, each with a bucket of candy to disperse, lined up next to each other on seats from the entrance, through the common area, through the bingo hall and employee meeting room, and out the back porch. Staff members from HCC were stationed at intervals behind them, ready to refill the buckets as they got low. (Residents who were not up to handing out candy were still on hand in the common area, watching or just napping, but still part of the community.)
In short, for those in the know, high-density trick-or-treating, with no long walks or wet customes.
