Toastmasters provides speakers for DSHS senior project

Dripping Springs Toastmasters is providing a series of three-nights of speakers, to assist Dripping Springs High School seniors in the preparation of their Senior Portfolio Projects presentations.

The Senior Portfolio Project, headed by Cindy Reynolds under the leadership of high school Principal, Joe Burns, creates an opportunity for students to explore and identify not only those academic skills they have acquired but as they reflect on their experiences, uncover the soft skills they are developing and how these shape their values and contributions moving forward.

“We believe it’s necessary for community members to be involved in whatever way we can to support these students as they reflect on their values and beliefs and make decisions about what they stand for and how they will show up in the next chapter of their lives,” Nicole Bevilacqua, Vice President of Public Relations for Dripping Springs Toastmasters, said. “It’s a natural extension of Toastmasters’ core values and mission to sponsor a speaker series that contributes in some small way to the leadership and communication abilities of the next generation.”

Speakers and panelists featured each night include local business owners and professionals, recent high school graduates, and Toastmasters club members who will share insight, advice, and stories aimed at helping students reflect and transfer their own learning experiences into meaningful decision making for their future. There will be a live Q & A session at the end of each evening and networking opportunities.

The first night of speakers occurred on Feb. 11, with the topic of- “Getting Started: Making the Most of Reflection and What to Do if You Don’t Know What to Do.” The three panel speakers were: Cindy Reynolds, Cornerstone Coordinator at DSHS; and DSHS graduates Mariam Ahmed and Kirby Cathey.
