Tiger technology team qualifies for international competition

In June, two teams from Dripping Springs High School (DSHS) competed in engineering-related competitions.

The “Turbo Tigers” placed first and qualified for international competition at the “Land Rover 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge.” This is the second consecutive year they have done so. They were also honored with Best Engineered Vehicle, Best Track Performance, Best Trailer Performance, Best Verbal Presentation Award, Innovative Thinking Award, Portfolio & Pit Display Award, and Research & Development Award.

The Land Rover challenge involves teams working together to design and build a radio controlled fourwheel drive (4x4) vehicle, to set specifications. The team’s vehicle must be able to successfully negotiate a specially designed test track emulating real life, and it must perform as a full-scale 4x4 vehicle would do in an off-road situation.

The location for the international portion of the Land Rover competition has not yet been announced.

Also competing in a technology competition was the “F1 In Schools Team” at the regional championships. DSHS won the “Pit Display Award,” but final results have not been posted. In the F1 in Schools Challenge, students use software to collaborate, design, analyze, manufacture, test, and race miniature compressed airpowered balsa wood F1 cars.

Both competitions were held at the Circuit of the Americas.
