“This year, we as directors, are asking our members to take ownership of the Tiger Band,” said Band Director Derek Woods, “and with this additional responsibility, we are providing training and team-building opportunities for the band’s leadership to hone the effectiveness of their leadership and interpersonal skills.”

When the Dripping Springs High School Tiger Band takes the field during the 2019-20 Marching Season, as well as for their football half-time performances, you’re not simply seeing a well-disciplined regiment of dedicated and exceptional musicians.

Instead, this year’s Tiger Band has become an organization which is led and governed by students. Students have taken ownership of the organizations vision, set high standards in music and academic progress, and accepted responsibility for achieving those goals through hard work and personal integrity—on and off the field.

“This year, we as directors, are asking our members to take ownership of the Tiger Band,” said Band Director Derek Woods, “and with this additional responsibility, we are providing training and team-building opportunities for the band’s leadership to hone the effectiveness of their leadership and interpersonal skills.”

“Aside from musicianship and mastering this year’s intricate and musically-demanding show, we are asking students to step up,” Woods said. “These young men and women are not leaders in title only. They are becoming mentors to new members, shepherds for their sections and responsible for the growth of their respective sections as well as areas of the band’s overall functions.

The 2019-20 DSHS Mighty Tiger Marching Band will be headed by Drum Major Jessica Heintz, with Assistant Drum Majors Madeline Lee, Kearsen Erwin and Reagan Reynolds. Visual Sergeant is Sarah Cox.

The Dripping Springs community can be proud that our Tiger Band isn’t just producing excellent musicians, but excellent future citizens by learning self-determination through leadership and mentoring lessons.
