Texas Armed Services Scholarship awarded

Dripping Springs’ State Senator Donna Campbell announced Dennis Gentry Von Dohlen, of San Antonio, will be this year’s recipient of the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP) for Senate District 25.

The Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program was created by the 81st Legislature to encourage students to participate in ROTC programs and to enter a branch of the armed forces.

“Dennis Von Dohlen is an exceptional young man who embodies the virtues of those who serve our nation and strive to be the best that they can be. Among a distinguished field of applicants, Dennis’ proven work ethic, devotion to his studies, and passion for community service made him the strongest candidate for this award. I wish Dennis the best as he goes on to pursue his interests and serve our great state and nation,” said Senator Campbell.

A graduate of San Antonio Claudia Taylor Johnson High School, Dennis earned Summa Cum Laude honors and was voted to the UIL Academic All-State 1st Team for his efforts on the gridiron and in the classroom. Additionally, Dennis participated in the National Honor Society, Student Council, numerous faith-based mission trips and organizations such as the San Antonio Neighbors Mission Trip and the Catholic Day Worker Ministry.

Dennis will start this fall at Texas A&M University’s Dwight Look College of Engineering. As a freshman cadet in the Corps of Cadets, Dennis is enrolled in the Naval ROTC program with the goal of receiving a military commission as a Naval officer upon graduation.

Parents and students interested in applying for next year’s Texas Armed Services Scholarship should contact Senator’s Campbell’s office at (512) 463-0125.

Campbell represents Senate District 25, which includes the counties of Bexar (part), Comal, Guadalupe, Hays, Kendall, and Travis (part). She is Chairwoman of the Veteran Affairs and Border Security (VABS) Committee.
