Shop Small Saturday success for Chamber of Commerce

More than 40 businesses participated in the Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce “Shop Small Saturday” last weekend and were filled with shoppers taking advantage of the day’s sales, special offers, and giveaways.

“It was a beautiful day for Shop Small Saturday – it was great to see so many people out shopping and enjoying local businesses around town,” Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce President Susan Kimball said. “Shopping locally is one of the best ways we can show support for our community, especially during the holiday season.”

On Mercer Street, the shopping was heavy.

Scott Daves held an open house of his new venue on Mercer Street, “The Station on Mercer,” and guests enjoyed wine & cocktails as well as cheese plates in his historic 1940 F.W. Miller built stone building that was originally a Texaco station. Daves has refurbished the property, complete with newly installed old-style gas pumps in the front. The venue is available for event rentals.

Dawn Callihan and Gwyn Sommerfeld, co-owners of “Drippin’ Pickin’s” had a full house for most of the day in their antique and gift shop. “Our motto is vintage treasures and a whole lot of whatnot,” Callihan said. “We’re also looking forward to the upcoming Christmas on Mercer.” Their Shop Small Saturday promotion was free collectible wine glasses, filled with the beverage of the customer’s choice.

And while many of the businesses on Mercer Street participated, and filled the street with pedestrian traffic, other participating business ranged in area from Belterra Village (Breed and Co.) to Fitzhugh Road (Texas Hill Country Olive Co.); proving once again that Dripping Springs is far change from that sleepy little town of just a few years past.
