Richardson wins statewide PSF logo contest
Dripping Springs High School junior Melissa Richardson was announced the winner of the Texas Permanent School Fund (PSF) logo design contest, at the February State Board of Education meeting.
Richardson’s entry was selected from among 521 entries by Texas high schoolers. She was awarded a $3,000 cash prize, and her logo will be used by the State Board of Education on future materials representing the PSF. Superintendent Bruce Gearing, DSHS Principal Joe Burns, and Visual Arts teacher Jay Bates attended the SBOE meeting where the winning design was announced.
PSF is a sovereign wealth fund, created in 1854 by the Texas Legislature, for the purpose of funding Texas education. It is managed by the Texas General Land Office, and the majority its monies come from the royalties collected by PSF are from oil and gas extraction. At its last report dated Aug. 31, 2018, PSF reported a balance of $44 billion, with a distribution of $1.2 billion for Texas education.
