Ribbon Cutting The Science Mill Aquaponics Greenhouse
Representatives from seven area Chambers of Commerce attended a ribbon cutting at the Science Mill, a nonprofit science museum in Johnson City, to celebrate the Science Mill’s fourth birthday and the opening of an exciting addition to the museum: a 1,000-square-foot Aquaponics Greenhouse. The Science Mill hosted a “Grand Opening” for the greenhouse on Saturday, Feb. 16, in a day full of fun hands-on activities, special presentations and prize giveaways.
In its press release, The Science Mill said, “In this new experience, found only at the Science Mill, visitors will walk into a working aquaponics system where they can see how fish, plants and microbes work together to create healthy food. They will see how tilapia, prawns, koi and snapping turtles provide the food to grow fruit, vegetables and tropical plants in vertical growing tubes, floating rafts and in a giant living wall. This unique ecosystem represents the technology, beauty, practicality and science for sustainable agriculture and healthy eating.
The Science Mill is located at 101 S. Lady Bird Lane in Johnson City, TX. More information can be found at www.sciencemill.org.
