North Hays County Fire/Rescue and Ashlar Development announced plans for a new fire station that will serve the east side of Dripping Springs including residents of Belterra. The station will be on land that was negotiated with the new Ashlar Development community at Belterra.

“This station will be a great public asset,” North Hays Fire/Rescue Fire Chief Scott Collard said. “We are appreciative of Ashlar’s generosity in providing the land at a reasonable price. This area of our community is experiencing tremendous growth and this new fire station will be designed to house the apparatus and personnel required to meet the demand on our system.”

Steve Yetts, President of Ashlar Development, said, “We wanted to do our part to ensure the residents on the east side of town have safe and efficient access to crucial basic services. We are thrilled we could work with the North Hays County Fire/Rescue to offer the land at an affordable price so the fire department could move forward with planning for the new station.”

The new station, which will replace current Fire Station 74, will be approximately 15,000 square feet and will house a ladder truck as well as several other fire apparatus. In addition, Hays County ESD #1 EMS is also exploring the feasibility of housing a full-time ambulance at the facility.

Collard says the next step is to hire an architect. He is hopeful that the new station will be under construction in the spring of 2019, with an estimated completion in spring of 2020.
