New Dripping Springs High School principal hired

Internal candidate chosen
“Ms. Gamez is a strong instructional leader who understands the culture and expectations of both Dripping Springs High School and the Dripping Springs community...”

At a special meeting April 1, the Dripping Springs ISD Board of Trustees unanimously (6-0) approved Superintendent Bruce Gearing’s recommendation of Angela Gamez as the next principal of Dripping Springs High School.

Ms. Gamez is currently an assistant principal at the school, a position she has held since August 2016. In her current role, she is the instructional supervisor for English, Science and LOTE (Languages other than English), handles student discipline for a third of the student body, builds the master schedule, and oversees the campus Advanced Placement, Gifted and Talented and ELL programs. Previously, she spent one year as the DSHS Instructional Facilitator, working closely with teachers through coaching and coordination of professional development.

“Ms. Gamez is a strong instructional leader who understands the culture and expectations of both Dripping Springs High School and the Dripping Springs community,” said Dr. Gearing. “Her vision for supporting student success aligns closely with the district’s mission and vision, and she has had the benefit of working closely with Mr. Burns for the past four years.”

Before coming to DSISD, Ms. Gamez taught English at Karnes City High School, Marble Falls High School, and Llano High School.

Ms. Gamez received her bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Psychology from Southern Methodist University in 2006. She then earned a master’s degree of Teaching with certifications in English Language Arts and Reading (Grade 8-12) from St. Edward’s University in 2008. Ms. Gamez completed her principal certification with the University of Texas Permian Basin.

Ms. Gamez will start her duties when current principal Joe Burns retires following this school year.

The recommendation follows an extensive process for reviewing and interviewing candidates, which included participation from faculty, student, and parent representatives.
