National Night Out registration begins
Hays County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting registrations from neighborhoods interested in participating in “National Night Out Against Crime” on Tuesday Oct. 1.
The event is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch/Neighborhood Watch, and other anti-crime efforts.
Initially neighborhoods held lights-on vigils, but the event has since evolved to more festive events including block parties, festivals, and other events that bring neighbors together.
National Night Out is designed to:
1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
2. Generate support and participation in crime efforts.
3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations.
4. Send a message to criminals letting them know that your neighborhood is organized and fighting back.
Neighborhood representative’s interested in registering their neighborhood for the event are asked to request a registration form from Gary Anderson at [email protected] or by telephone 512-393-7792.
Neighborhoods should also register with the National Association of Town Watch at https://natw.org/registration.
Applications should be received by September 20, 2019.
If unsure whether your community is registered or not, check with your local law enforcement, or neighborhood coordinator such as your property owners association.
