About The Lions Club

The Lions Club was formed in 1917 by a group of Chicago businessmen who believed that they should “reach beyond business issues and address the betterment of their communities.” Business leader and founder Melvin Jones stated, “You can’t get very far until you start doing something for somebody else.”  The motto of the Lions Club is “We Serve.”

The Lions Club is the largest service organization in the world with over 1.4 million members in more than 200 countries.  Lions are dedicated to helping those in need today as they were over 100 years ago. Globally, Lions are known for the commitment to the areas of sight, health, youth, elderly, the environment and disaster relief.

Entering the second century of service, the Lions Club has a new Global Service Framework, which focuses heavily on five worldwide service areas: diabetes, the environment, hunger, childhood cancer and vision.
