Jazz Gala Fundraiser for band programs

Jazz aficionados, music lovers, band families (high school and middle school), and family members of The Dazzlers JV Dance Team, are all invited to the “2019 Evening of Jazz,” on Thursday Mar. 7, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Dripping Springs Ranch Park, 1042 Event Center Drive.

This year’s gala includes an “all-you-can-put-on-your-plate (one pass through) barbecue dinner” with all the trimmings and dessert from Pok-E-Joe’s, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., along with a silent auction, and smooth jazz beginning at 5:30 p.m.

On the musical menu, you’ll be treated to an elegant entrée of great stylings from the Dripping Springs High Jazz Orchestra, a group so musically talented, they should record their performances for fans to enjoy all year long, so they’re doubly good in person. The DSH Jazz Orchestra’s director is Mr. James Hairston, newly hired this year at Dripping.

Also playing will be the Middle School Jazz Bands, led by Mr. Dollard. It’s always a treat to see these younger musicians with so much passion for jazz so early in their musical careers.

A welcomed addition to this year’s gala will be the Dazzlers JV Dance Team, led by Terri Williams. They have performed across the city and will serve up the grace notes to the Jazz Orchestra’s program.

The Silent Auction will add suspense to the evening, so bring your credit cards, cash and checkbooks because all will be accepted. Raffle tickets from students closed on Feb. 19, but you can purchase them at the Evening of Jazz, so your winning ways will allow you to choose from “Family & Friends Dinners Out” (gift cards from the fine restaurants in Belterra Village – a $260 value), a $250 gift card to Central Market/HEB or a $250 gift card to Amazon.com.

Tickets to the event are $30, and can be purchase online at http://TinyUrl.com/EOJ2019tix, now through midnight, Monday, February 25th(be sure to give “credit” to the band student of your choosing while making our purchase).

An Evening of Jazz, which raises funds for our Dripping Springs award-winning band programs, helps make it possible for our participation fees to be less expensive than those of band programs in some neighboring school districts and helps offset costs of the programs that wouldn’t be covered by the District. So join us for a fun-filled evening of fellowship, food and some of Texas Hill Country’s best jazz entertainment. You’ll be supporting our young people by contributing to more opportunities for them to become responsible team players, effective leaders and well-trained musicians. And, as always, Go Tiger Band!
