Hays County National Night Out neighborhood registration has begun

Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler announced that on October 2, 2018, Hays County will participate in National Night Out Against Crime.

The event is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch/Neighborhood Watch, and other anti-crime efforts. Initially communities held lights-on vigils; now many communities hold block parties, festivals, and other events to help bring neighbors together.

National Night Out is designed to:

1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.

2. Generate support and participation in crime efforts.

3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations.

4. Send a message to criminals letting them know that our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Neighborhoods are encouraged to register with the Sheriff’s Office by obtaining an application at http://www.co.hays.tx.us/sheriff.aspx and with the National Association of Town Watch at https://natw.org/registration. Please check with your local law enforcement or your neighborhood coordinator to see if your neighborhood is registered. Applications should be received by September 21, 2018.

If you have further questions or need to register in Hays County, you can contact Deputy Stephen Traeger of the Hays County Sheriff’s Office at 512-393-7373 or via email at [email protected]. tx.us. For more information about National Night Out, you can visit the National Association of Town Watches website at http://www.nationaltownwatch.org/natw/.
