“We’ve served over 50,000 meals prepared to the clients nutritional needs and their likes and dislikes,” Friends Board Member Wayland D. Clark said.

The Friends Foundation will hold its 26th Annual BBQ Fundraiser on Thursday, Oct. 10, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., at the Salt Lick’s Pecan Grove, 18200 FM 1826, in Driftwood.

The event will have music by Hot Texas Swing Band, silent and live auctions, and of course BBQ from the Salt Lick. The Friends Foundation is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides programs beneficial to the elderly and support to the local nursing home in the greater Dripping Springs area.

Their flagship program, “Our Daily Bread,” provides meals for the elderly. “We’ve served over 50,000 meals prepared to the clients nutritional needs and their likes and dislikes,” Friends Board Member Wayland D. Clark said.

The Philips Lifeline Med-Alert program provides medic alert devices to the elderly to summon help in a medical emergency at any time. “This service provides peace of mind for those who live alone and for their families,” Clark said.

The Friends Foundation’s support for the elderly, however, is not restricted to just those two programs; it extends into other areas that flexibly fit the needs of the elderly. Financial Assistance is the foundation’s only income-qualifying program. Support is provided for eyeglasses, dental work, rent, utilities and other necessities. “We strive to improve the quality of life for seniors in their own homes and those in Hill Country Nursing and Rehab,” said Clark. “We provide financial support for special events, music, birthday parties, holiday celebrations and other beneficial programs for the residents.”

Tickets for the BBQ buffet, served from 6-8 p.m., are $25, children 6 and under eat free. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Tickets may be purchased online or at the door. For more information visit the friendsfoundation.org, or call (512) 592-1345.
