Friends of the DSCL gear up for 10th annual Pouring Over Books fundraiser

Friends of the Dripping Springs Community Library (DSCL) will soon hold their 10th annual Pouring Over Books fundraiser. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held virtually on Sunday, February 28. This is the biggest fundraiser of 2021 for the library.

Each year, the money raised contributes to library equipment, programs, and services for the growing community. “Pouring Over Books is our main fundraiser for the year,” Cindy Heath, Vice President and Publicity Chair for the Friends said. “The money raised allowed us to donate $17,500.00 to the DSCL last year. This money helps make the summer reading program a success and allows the library to purchase Kindles to be given as prizes. These devices let readers access electronic books.”

The Pouring Over Books fundraiser was created by Karen Crowther and Bobbie Hentschel. They began by making gift baskets several years ago. Crowther and Hentschel successfully raffled them off, which led to the Silent Auction that now contributes to the fundraiser.

“This year we are excited to have over 12 beautiful themed gift baskets containing gift cards and items donated by local businesses and library supporters,” Heath said, “We also have separate gift certificates, jewelry, and vacation packages.”

In addition to the silent auction, each year the event features different local authors, wine, food and music. The pandemic has limited the events such as food and wine. Nonetheless, there will still be an author and music, and attendees can still browse the auction in-person (following safety protocols), as well.

This year’s speaker is author Joe Nick Patoski, who will read from his work and answer questions. Patoski is an award-winning journalist and author who is widely considered a leading expert on Texas, particularly with his reporting and writing on music, the environment, and myriad aspects of Texas culture.

Tickets to the event cost $25.00 per household, and a one-year membership to the Friends is included as a thank you to supporters. For more information on supporting or sponsoring the event, visit fodscl. org/events/pouring-overbooks. Additionally, the online silent auction is now underway.
