DSISD names Cumberland as new director of safety

The Dripping Springs ISD Board of Trustees has unanimously approved the hiring of Sirenna Cumberland as the district’s new Director of Safety.

The vote was held at the board’s regular meeting on Monday, July 25. Cumberland is an accomplished law enforcement professional with 28 years of experience. During her career, she served as a patrol deputy and investigator – all in Hays County – and is no stranger to DSISD after spending six years as a School Resource Officer with the district from 2013 to 2019.

For the past three years, Cumberland has served as a Training Specialist for the Texas School Safety Center in San Marcos, working with both public schools and the law enforcement community conducting mandated trainings and ensuring all school-based law enforcement curriculum is updated and consistent.

In her new role, Cumberland will provide strategic direction and leadership for DSISD’s safety and security program. This includes training, monitoring, and managing district-wide safety and security protocols, as well as the advisement and coordination of safety and security systems and equipment for the district. She will begin her new position before the school year starts in August and will report directly to Superintendent Dr. Holly Morris-Kuentz.

She brings excellent experience and deep relationships with local law enforcement and our local community. I appreciate the Board’s full support to bring this important role to DSISD.”

While with DSISD, Cumberland provided security and safety to students and staff. In her role, she investigated criminal matters occurring on school grounds; conducted school security inspections; collaborated with administration and teachers to develop crisis plans; and presented proactive education on topics such as digital citizenship, anti-drug, and appropriate device usage.
