DSISD April Board Meeting Summary

Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Scott Drillette talked about potential impact that the current school status will have on both expenditures and revenues.

The Dripping Springs ISD Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on April 27, with board members participating remotely, as permitted by Governor Abbott’s temporary suspension of Open Meetings Laws in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. 

For the Campus Spotlight, Dripping Springs Middle School Principal Jason Certain introduced a video highlighting the "Shadow a Student" program where a group of teachers each followed a student through a daily schedule. Several student recognitions were announced via video: FFA students who qualified for the state Leadership Development Event, DSHS junior Drew Wilson who qualified for the ExxonMobil State Science Fair, and DSHS art students who qualified for the state VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event).

Interim Assistant Superintendent for Learning and Innovation Joe Burns introduced an action item to move from six-week grading periods to nine-week grading periods at the secondary level. He also reported on adoption for new high school ELA instructional materials, shared a technology update, and gave an overview of remote learning including how staff are reaching out to all students.

Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Scott Drillette introduced the quarterly operations report, discussed the 2018 bond report and shared that the Bond Advisory Committee met, and talked about potential impact that the current school status will have on both expenditures and revenues. Mr. Drillette shared that follow-up was being done on a potential alternative option for employee healthcare. Zach Hobbs of TASB was available to Board members for follow-up questions regarding the Staffing Report that was presented during the April 20 Workshop/Agenda Review meeting.

Superintendent Todd Washburn summarized results of a Thought Exchange that was done with parents in the past week regarding remote learning and shared survey results of seniors regarding graduation options. He introduced Suzanne Marchman from Huckabee and Associates who reported on a communications audit that was conducted from November through March.

The Board also took action on appointment of Eric Henline and Matthew Fougerat to the Dripping Springs Parks and Recreation Commission  and approved a resolution regarding high school grades for the spring semester 2020 not being used towards calculation of grade-point average and rank in class average.
