Dripping Springs ISD November Board Meeting

Monthly meeting held varied subjects

The Dripping Springs ISD Board of Trustees held its monthly regular meeting Nov. 26, and covered varied topics ranging from an update on the 2018 bond program, to recognition of elementary school students.

The Small Engine class at Sycamore Springs Elementary was featured as the Campus Spotlight at the beginning of the meeting. During the recognitions portion of the meeting, Dripping Springs High School students who were recognized by the College Board as AP Scholars with Distinction for 2018 were announced, and the boys' and girls’ cross country teams that placed ninth and 10th, respectively, at the state championships, were honored. 

DSISD Employees were also recognized. The following employees received Above and Beyond awards: Sandy Alvarado from Walnut Springs Elementary, Chasidy Anderson from Rooster Springs Elementary, Laurie Burton from Dripping Springs Middle School, Natalie Lyle and Lucy Martinez from Sycamore Springs Elementary, Denise Ladner from the Business Office, Ginny Lindzey from Dripping Springs High School, Nancy Rodriguez from Dripping Springs Elementary, and Lance Thornton from Sycamore Springs Middle School.

DSISD Project Manager Mike Garcia gave an update on the 2018 bond program, that addressed renovations at the high school, Dripping Springs Elementary, Rooster Springs Elementary, and the Transportation facility. Russ Edwards from Kite Services presented the district’s annual risk management report. It included information on insurance coverages in the areas of workers compensation, property/liability program, and student accident. 

In the Superintendent's Report, Dr. Bruce Gearing provided an update on Special Services staffing and presented a report on the Long-Range Facility Planning Committee, including a summary of the first meeting. He shared that a future timeline was shared with those in attendance and that all materials have been posted to the DSISD website.

Assistant Superintendent for Learning and Innovation, Dr. Poenitzsch gave an update from the L&I team. Assistant Superintendent Elaine Cogburn pointed out a new indicator that will be used on future FIRST reports regarding budgeted vs. projected revenues and introduces monthly reports.

Board action included approval of the transfer of funds related to a reimbursement resolution for property at RR12 and Mt. Gainor Road, the renewal of a contract for waste collection and recycling, two 23-student elementary classes, and the K-8 Language Arts Adoption Committee. In addition, the Board approved recommendations for contractors for three projects:  American Constructors for high school additions and renovations project, Cadence McShane Construction for Dripping Springs Elementary and Rooster Springs Elementary renovation projects, and QA Construction Services, Inc. for Transportation facility improvements.
