Dripping Springs Girl Scouts awarded college scholarships

Dripping Springs-Wimberley Girl Scouts, in partnership with Dripping Springs Community Foundation, announced that six of its newly graduated seniors have been awarded 2022 Girl Scout Scholarships. Five of the six are recent Dripping Springs High School graduates.

Scholarship recipients were selected based on leadership, service to community and personal character.

“These girls represent that which is excellent in our youth, and we anticipate from these girls great works and achievements ahead,” said Sharon Hamilton, a local Girl Scouts volunteer. “These brief biographies only touch the surface of what these young women have achieved in high school. We wish them joy and success in their next endeavors as they continue to make the world a better place.”

Karsten Bobb, the 2021–2022 DSHS valedictorian, will attend Emory University in the fall and major in Environmental Science. Bobb was active in Girl Scouts for more than a decade, earning her bronze, silver and gold awards — the highest Girl Scout awards. She won multiple athletic awards in her high school crosscountry and track career, including the Heisman State Level Scholarship, awarded to only one female athlete annually in each State. Bobb was awarded a $1000 scholarship from the local Girl Scouts chapter.

Evelyn Bristol graduated in the top 5% of the most recent DSHS class and will attend American University in the fall. Bristol has been active in Girl Scouts for 11 years, earning her bronze and silver and is now working to complete her gold award. She also joined Scouts BSA during high school and became the first female in the district to earn her Eagle Scout award. She has actively participated in multiple student-led organizations focusing on social change while maintaining academic excellence. Bristol was awarded a $1000 scholarship from the local Girl Scouts chapter.

Lindsay Kastner, a DSHS graduate, will study Aquatic Science at Texas State in the fall — with future plans to transfer to the University of Hawaii. Lindsay said she found her passion when she participated in coral reef restoration projects at the Brinton Environmental Center, Sea Base. Kastner traveled to five states and three countries with her Girl Scout troop and thanked Scouts for giving her confidence, teaching her leadership and adding to her circle of support. She also dedicated her time in high school to a job at Flying Fish Academy, the Varsity High Steppers and approximately 600 hours of community service. Kastner was awarded a $1000 scholarship from the local Girl Scouts chapter.

Michelle Miyamoto, a DSHS graduate, will study Psychology at Texas State in the fall, having earned awards of excellence in art, creative writing, and math. She has been in Girl Scouts since kindergarten and said she has learned the value of friendship, community service and advocacy. Miyamoto works at The Art Garage, started a creative writing club and has a passion for arts and community. She said that watching her mother perform community service with the Parent-Teacher Association and Girl Scouts was a big influence in her dedication to making the world a better place. Miyamoto was awarded a $500 scholarship from the local Girl Scouts chapter.

Providence Daniel — a DSHS graduate and accomplished Girl Scout, trumpet player, artist, and poet — plans to be an English teacher following her studies at Austin Community College and Stephen F. Austin State University. She credited her middle school English teacher, Mrs. Montgomery, for influencing her plans and igniting her desire to encourage people through her teaching. Daniel went on international mission trips with her Girl Scout troop and has participated in domestic mission work with her parish. Daniel was awarded a $500 scholarship from the local Girl Scouts chapter.

Alexandria Palmer graduated from Wimberley High School in the top 20% of her class. She plans to study art at Austin College. Palmer said she wants to pursue a career in art, possibly working as an Art Therapist in the future. She is a member of the National Honor Society, takes AP courses and is a 4-year member of the awardwinning Spirit of Texas Marching Band. She volunteers at the library and the Emily Ann Theater and has been a Girl Scout for 10 years. Palmer was awarded a $500 scholarship from the local Girl Scouts chapter.
