DSACT serves almost 800 families in Central Texas who have a loved one with Down syndrome.

At the Dripping Springs City Council meeting on March 10, Council Member Wade King presented Benjamin Cantu, and his parents Felipe and Tracey Cantu, with a Proclamation proclaiming March 21, 2020 as “Down Syndrome Association of Texas Day.”  Tracey Cantu is a board member of the “Downs Syndrome Association of Central Texas.” Alongside her was Executive Director Jennifer Edwards (not pictured), who stated the following:

“DSACT serves almost 800 families in Central Texas who have a loved one with Down syndrome.  We have over 7300 members here in Texas and around the globe.  We work hard to advocate for our members, and collaborate with school districts and medical professionals to help them stay up to date on best practice and research. DSACT envisions a world in which all members, including those with Down syndrome, are accepted, valued for their uniqueness, respected for their abilities and contributions, and assured the opportunity and choice to create their own path to fulfillment and success. And while we want to leave no one behind, we’re concerned that there are people in our community with Down syndrome who need help and aren’t getting it. Surprisingly, the population of people in the U.S. with Down syndrome is currently unknown. One third of Americans know someone with Down syndrome. If you know someone with Down syndrome, please encourage them or their family to contact DSACT. We’d love to welcome them into our community and offer our support and resources.”

The Proclamation states that the “Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas” has provided support, resources, and education for those affected in the Dripping Springs Community for over 29 years, and continues to honor the lives and abilities of individuals with Down syndrome by celebrating World Down Syndrome Day. The DS City Council encourages citizens to lend their support for these valued members of our community.
