DAR installs new board and presents awards

To recognize Regent McGlamery’s formation of the Dripping Springs Chapter...she was presented with an honorarium bench to be placed on the grounds of the Dr. Joseph and Sarah Pound Farmstead.

The bi-monthly meeting of the Sarah Pound Chapter of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) was held on May 5th at the Terrace Club.

About 40 members and special guests, gathered to express their gratitude to Marilyn McGlamery for her two year term as Organizing Regent of the Sarah Pound Chapter, to install the Executive Board for 2019-2021, to be led by Jody Faulkner the newly elected Regent, and present various awards.

Two community members recognized for outstanding service, were Paige Frontera and Luke Jenkins for awards from the Texas State DAR and the chapter. The installation of the incoming Executive board was performed by the Texas DAR State Librarian, Alice Braud-Jones and GeorgiAnne Brochstein, Texas DAR State Historian.

Regent McGlamery, along with help from her daughter, Nancy, and several DAR friends were responsible for building this new chapter in Dripping Springs. Under her guidance the chapter held its organizing meeting on November 19, 2017 and received its charter on December 5, 2017.  The chapter formed with 83 members, making it one of the largest new chapters ever in the state of Texas. The chapter continues to grow both in membership and recognition. It has received awards from both the state and national societies of DAR for community outreach, service for veterans and support of DAR schools.

To recognize Regent McGlamery’s formation of the Dripping Springs Chapter and upholding the missions of the National DAR Society, she was presented with an honorarium bench to be placed on the grounds of the chapter’s namesake, the Dr. Joseph and Sarah Pound Farmstead.

Additionally, her name will be added to the DAR’s Daughters Tribute Digital Donor Wall distinguishing members who have made extraordinary contributions to the society.

Paige Frontera, a Dripping Springs Middle School teacher, was recognized for placing 2nd place in the Texas Society’s Outstanding Teacher of American History contest. Georgi Anne Brochstein, Texas DAR State Historian, presented Paige with her winning certificate and monetary award. Frontera is a well-known history teacher at DSMS, especially for her Battle of the Alamo and Erie Canal reconstruction projects.

The Sarah Pound chapter awarded DSHS senior, Luke Jenkins, the DAR Good Citizenship Award. The award recognizes students with the traits of dependability, leadership and patriotism. This is the first time this award has been given by this chapter.

The DAR is a service organization founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War.
