City extends moratorium another 120 days

The Dripping Springs City Council has voted to extend its existing Temporary Development Moratorium in relation to wastewater needs.

Until Sept. 18, no city department will accept permit applications for development where a waiver or exception has not been approved. Projects requiring wastewater service from the city could also be delayed, according to the city. Any project that does not request or require wastewater service from the city will be eligible for an exception.

The Temporary Development Moratorium was enacted on Nov. 18, 2021 and was extended in February to May 21.

Over the past six months, city leaders met with developers and builders and approved more than forty waivers and exceptions, primarily for ongoing projects. The city also started the process of revisiting its comprehensive plan, studying land use and development in the city limits and extraterritorial jurisdiction. It hired a professional land planning firm to provide comprehensive plan and development code services.

The moratorium as it relates to land use has been lifted, but the council extended the moratorium as it relates to wastewater. The council said it continues to recognize the impact of rapid growth on providing for responsible development in relation to providing adequate wastewater infrastructure for the city.

During the temporary moratorium extension, exceptions can be reviewed and approved by city staff, without needing to go through the city council waiver approval process.
