August 14

High School Freshman Orientation

Dripping Springs High School will hold its freshman orientation, called R.O.A.R. (Responsibility, Opportunity, Achievement, Resiliency), for both students and parents on Tuesday August 14. There will be two sessions, the first from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and the second from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the school’s competition gym. “At R.O.A.R., freshmen will attend various sessions created to help them navigate their transition to high school. They will also receive a campus tour, be introduced to our counselors and administrative team, and hopefully make lots of new friends! Many of our clubs will be in attendance and several community organizations will also be on campus to welcome freshmen also!” Parents will follow a schedule independent of their student(s).

Outdoor Movie Night

“Back to the Future” is playing at Founders Pool. Join us at the pool to float or sit poolside for this family favorite! Gates open at 8 p.m., movie begins at 8:30 p.m., and lifeguards will be on duty. Tickets are $3 per person and available at the gate or at www.drpoundhistoricalfarmstead.org.

August 18

Hill Country Shootout

The St. Martin de Porres Knights of Columbus will hold their annual Hill Country Shootout, a sporting clay competition and fundraiser, on August 18, at the Hog Heaven Sporting Club, 24905 Ranch Road 12. Proceeds of the event will directly support charitable activities in the community. The 24-station event will hold competitions for top men’s, women’s, and junior shooters. Cuts 4 Kids, United Methodist

The Dripping Springs United Methodist Church will its third annual Cuts 4 Kids on Saturday August 18, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, at the DSUMC Foundry. Cuts 4 Kids provides free back to school haircuts for children attending kindergarten through 12th grade. Heart of Texas Pregnancy Resource Center

The Heart of Texas Pregnancy Resource Center will hold a benefit concert featuring singer songwriter Dillon Havings, a rock-blues-contemporary Christian artist, on Saturday August 18, at Friendship Creekside Fellowship, 14455 FM 1826, Austin (approximately 4 miles from the Salt Lick). It’s services include pregnancy tests, limited ultrasounds, individual support, resource help, and community and medical referrals at no cost. The Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly lunch on Thursday August 23, at 11:30 a.m., at the Terrace Club, 2600 Hwy 290. Lunch will be catered by Whim Catering and a Sweet Talk Dessert will be sponsored by PAWS Shelter of Central Texas.

Women’s Suffrage History at Library

U.T. Professor Megan Seaholm, PhD, will give a presentation on the history of the Woman’s Suffrage Movement on Saturday August 25, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Dripping Springs Community Library. Hays County Master Gardener Classes

The Hays County Master Gardener Association will hold its fall training program beginning Saturday September 1, and concluding Saturday November 3. The classes will feature speakers from the horticultural/gardening industry and present programs to expand gardening knowledge.
