UIL reclassification ahead

Article Image Alt Text

Every two years UIL schools go through the same procedure to determine their future for the next two years. It is called reclassification. A term used in athletics is “on the bubble” and it looks like Dripping Springs is truly on the bubble when it comes to the classification they will be in for the next two years. They will either be a large 5A school or a very small 6A. The last number I found on enrollment had Dripping Springs with 2155 in high school. The last reclassification cutoff was 2190 but there is no standard cutoff number.

The steps for reclassification begin with school enrollments. On October 30, every UIL school will turn in their enrollment numbers. The next step has all the schools arranged from top to bottom according to enrollment. Next, the UIL will determine how many schools they want to have in 6A and will count down that number. That enrollment number will be the cutoff point. The same procedure for all the other classifications. The most important step comes when the committee decides who the district members will be. That will be announced in early February. After a period for protests, the schedules are drawn up for the next two years.
