As the birth of our first grandchild approached, I remember not appreciating friends who made the comment, “The great difference between kids and grandkids is you can get rid of grandkids at the end of the day.”
If history is an indicator, Texas voters will likely go to the polls on Nov. 2 in underwhelming numbers to decide the fate of eight proposed amendments to the state’s constitution. With no statewide races on the ballot, and a scattering of local elections for city council and school board, turnout typically is low. Nevertheless, early voting is now underway and continues until Oct. 29.
During the summer, we think of flowers like petunias as those fragrant, spilling or tumbling flowers cascading over the rims of baskets and mixed containers. That same show of incredible color coupled with tantalizing fragrance can be achieved during the cool season with pansies like those of the Cool Wave series.
The community is invited to a private showing of sculpture and art in the garden and studio of Cypress Fork Ranch Saturday, Oct. 30, 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
