Volunteers hold car show BBQ at senior living

CAR SHOW

A group of volunteers held a free BBQ and car show at Ledgestone Senior Living this Saturday. The event was free and open to the public.

The idea originated with Jimmy Winkler who had recently visited the senior’s facility. “I have a relative that will be moving into Ledgestone any day now, so I paid a visit and liked it. I saw what they were doing for seniors and so I, and some volunteers, just wanted to a part of it. I spoke with Debra [Maddox] and said I know how to cook, and I donated and cooked up all the brisket for the event. I then called local car owners and invited them to participate,” Winkler said.

In photo Winkler and Debra Maddox, of Ledgestone Senior Living, stand in front of a 1924 Ford Model T Touring Model owned by Steve and Cynthia Hadorn. “We’ve had the car for about 10 years,” Steve said. “Cynthia inherited it from her father who had it for many years before. You can buy a new car of any lot, drive it down the street and nobody would even pay attention to you. But you drive this 100 year old car down the street and everybody looks and waves. It’s kind of a friend maker.”
