Wildfire danger continues to rise in Texas
As we cross the halfway point of July, wildfire danger continues to increase across the state. On Friday, Texas A&M Forest Service firefighters responded to 15 new wildfires that burned 651 acres. As of Sunday, there were eight active wildfires; the largest was the Nethery Road Fire in Kimble County, involving an estimated 3,500 acres. It has been 70% contained. 07/21/2022 12:00 AM

ICI hosts Indigenous Arts Summer Encounter
The Indigenous Cultures Institute, based in San Marcos, Texas, held its 12th Indigenous Arts Summer Encounter from June 27 through July 2, 2022 at Cuauhtemoc Hall. Local students participated in daily activities that included the history, culture, arts and traditions of the indigenous people of this area. Students learned the Creation Story, about food justice, and engaged in visual arts, music, dance, writing and cooking/nutrition activities. Students were also introduced to the Coahuiltecan language which was spoken by Indigenous ancestors who lived and thrived in this area for over 13,000 years. The event was sponsored by the City of San Marcos Arts Commission, Texas Commission on the Arts, Hays County, Hill Country Alliance, Environmental Defense Fund, and public donations. 07/21/2022 12:00 AM

There is a new Superbells calibrachoa making its debut in 2023 that is so beautifully unusual, I’ve wondered if Proven Winners even knows what it has: Superbells Prism Pink Lemonade calibrachoa. Had calibrachoas been around in 1800 as Empress Josephine was constructing the gardens at Le Chateau de Malmaison, I am sure Pink Lemonade would have been her first choice. 07/21/2022 12:00 AM
