Dripping Life
Dripping Life
Small children fear darkness, crying at the possibility of bad guys hiding under the bed or monsters in the closet. These imaginings are usually erased by hugs, reassurances and under-thebed inspections. When my boys were small, I used room spray to banish bad guys and monsters. In some cases, an invitation to spend the night in mom’s and dad’s room calms the frightened child…or perhaps a warm place in the parents’ bed was the goal all along. 04/14/2022 12:00 AM

Wimberley fire contained: 60-80 acres burned, school saved, no homes damaged, no lives lost
“It was hot,” Christopher Robbins, Assistant Chief of Wimberley Fire and Rescue, said. “It is hard to describe to someone that doesn’t see these types of responses on a daily basis. Every time you would blink, the fire would double. Every time I went back to the truck to call for more resources, you would see through that smoke and see the rise of heat. It was so hot, it didn’t matter how far you stood back, you were getting burned up.” 04/14/2022 12:00 AM

District golf results
The Dripping Springs golf teams participated in the District 26-5A golf tournament held at the Vaaler's golf course near Blanco. In golf, it is a brutal battle to be able to advance to the regional tourney. Only two teams get to qualify for that honor. For the second year in a row, the DS Tigers found themselves just on the outside looking in as the third place finisher. In addition to the top two teams, the top two golfers not on those teams also advance to regional. Tanner Wardlaw was the No. 2 overall medalist and therefore is the lone Tiger to advance and certainly has a good chance to play well enough to make it to state. On a historical side note, Tanner's grandfather, Olen Wardlaw, played on the first Tiger golf team in 1966 along with Poe Shelton, Greg Phillips, Bill Crisp and Gary Garnett. Their effort netted the first district championship team in golf. The Lady Tigers struggled mightily at the district tourney. 04/14/2022 12:00 AM

Tigers earn another split week
The Tigers baseball team is having a hard time getting a win streak together in a district that has many evenly matched teams. This race should go down to the wire. The Tigers edged Kerrville Tivy 1-0 but have not been able to figure out the Hays Johnson pitcher as he took his second victory over the Tigers 6-2. 04/14/2022 12:00 AM

Tigers soccer team earns state
It has been a great year for the two Dripping Springs soccer teams and the end looked bright. However, in the end, the soccer teams ended up reversing last year's positions. Last year the Tigers were stopped 1-0 by Brownsville Porter and the Lady Tigers went on to win the state title. This year the Tigers (25- 3) were able to defeat Sharyland 2-0 and then got their revenge with a 2-0 blanking of Porter to send them to state for the first time since 2010. The big game for the Tigers was the Rouse quarterfinal game in which pen alty kicks advanced the Tigers after the 1-1 score. 04/14/2022 12:00 AM

Persian Shield so beautifully exotic: ‘This is the life’
Recently I stumbled across a plant recipe called ‘This is the Life’, not only was it a collection of some of my favorite plants but was like a wake-up call to an old favorite the Persian Shield. Known botanically as Strobilanthes dyerianus, it is native to Burma and has 8-inchlong leaves that are iridescent in shades of purple, lilac and pink with purplemaroon on the undersides. If those colors aren't awesome enough, the foliage looks as though it has a light coat of silver electroplated to the leaf. 04/14/2022 12:00 AM
