Dressage in the Hill Country Champions

On November 1 & 2 at Dripping Springs Ranch Park, Dressage riders participated in Dressage and Trail/Versatility clinics on Saturday and a 10-hour Dressage schooling show on Sunday.

The big prize of the day was a gorgeous trophy buckle for the junior and senior riders in each discipline with the highest Dressage score combined with a trail/versatility score.

The overall champions Sunday were: Brenda DeWitt (Sr/Western), Alyson Stockton (Sr/Classical), Ashley Wortham (Jr/Western), and Sarah Bouckley (Jr/Classical)

“Dressage” means “training” in French and is recognized as the highest expression of horse and rider training and performance; the pair completes “tests,” not patterns.

From Staff Reports

Dressage in the Hill Country was started by Stormy and Connie Brownson of Driftwood in 2011 to ensure that English riding events were included as offerings at the new venue.

Last home game on Halloween tricky for Tigers

Carl Waits, Sports Writer

Halloween provided the Tigers a chance for trick and treats as they took on the Georgetown Eagles in the last home game of the year.

Unfortunately, the trick was the Eagles final drive to take the victory 35-28. Certainly treats were provided by Joe Fex and Braden Shields. Fex rushed for 286 yards, 216 coming on three plays, which pushed his season total to 1225.

Only a sophomore, he becomes only the twelfth player in DS 11-man history to rush for more than a 1000. Shields stepped into the breach when a place-kicker was needed.

His two field goals gave him a record 8 for one season. Again, winning teams find a way to make the critical big play. The Tigers failure to score TD’s in the red zone and settling for FG’s and missing out on interception opportunities were big.

Lady Tigers perfect in district

The Lady Tigers volleyball team cruised through District 25-5A without a blemish on their record as they defeated Vandegrift and Georgetown.

They own a 39-6 season record and 14-0 district. This was the first time since 2009 that the Lady Tigers breezed through district play undefeated. The 2009 team (12-0) played in the much weaker Austin district that year.

The Lady Tigers played Bastrop Cedar Creek in the Bi-district game last Tuesday and will play Kerrville or Boerne Champion at Canyon Lake either tonight or Saturday. Check with athletic department for details.

Vs Vandegrift 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-17:

Kills: Morgyn Greer 21, Alissa Johnson 12, Ashley Waggle 11, Madison Green 11, Judianne Schoenborn 6, Carlie Shmidl 4, Autumn Rounsaville, Claire Gravell. Aces: Johnson 3, Waggle 3, Rounsaville 2, Gravell.

Good effort but Tigers falter in 4th Quarter

Dripping Springs matched the high-scoring offense of the Vandegrift Vipers for three quarters before faltering in the final quarter. The 48-29 loss misrepresented the Tiger effort. The Tigers were able to exploit an obvious weakness on the edges which probably explains while other teams have put up such offensive numbers against them.

However, numbers are not always the important factor in winning. The winning teams are the ones that continually convert critical plays and the Vipers managed to do this time and again when seemingly in a hole. Most forget the importance of one phase of the game until it jumps up and bites them.

The failure of the Tigers on special teams was a definite cause for defeat. They would have a punt and two extra points blocked plus a fumbled kickoff return that was a 16-point swing.

Big plays and penalties down Tigers

The opening kickoff gave fans a preview of the night to come as Vista Ridge remained undefeated on the season and district with their 31-7 defeat of the Tigers. It was filled with big plays and untimely penalties. The Rangers opted to receive the opening KO and the back returned it 92 yards for the score to only have it called back on a penalty and start from the 22.
