Stephen Klor Stout


Johnson City, TX—Stephen Klor Stout of Johnson City, Texas, formerly of Glenarm, died January 10, 2018 at his residence. Steve was born on February 29, 1944 in Springfield, IL to James H. and Margaret Klor Stout. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1962 and Iowa State University in 1970. He farmed in Glenarm until moving to Texas.

Steve enlisted in the Army in 1963. He served in The Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery, until entering Officer Candidate School in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, graduating in September 1965. He served in Vietnam as a Forward Observer assigned to the First Cavalry Division where he was awarded decorations for heroism, including the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars, both with Valor.

He was heavily involved in historical cowboy action shooting. He collected guns from the Old West and as a skilled marksman, he won numerous matches utilizing these firearms.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. Stout and Margaret Stout Pitzer; his sister, Judy Stout Swan; his niece, Samantha Stout Finney.

Steve is survived by his daughters, Susan Stout Jensen (John) from Chesterfield, MO; Laura Stout Kommers (Ryan) from Wheaton, IL; grandchildren, Andrew Hollinrake, Mitchell Jensen, Emma Kommers, Matthew Kommers; brothers; James H. Stout II, Chatham, IL and Joseph R. Stout (Kim), New Berlin, IL. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful for the care that Steve received from the Veterans AffairsMedical Centers in Texas. We are also thankful for his loyal friends in Texas who checked on him and drove him to treatments: Ron Gay, Bill Stout, and Doc Schwartz.

Per his request he will be interred at the Philemon Stout Cemetery, Chatham, Illinois.
