The National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) organized a Dripping Springs chapter, just prior to years end, and will begin regular meetings in 2018, at the Terrace Club.

The DAR is a non-profit, non- political volunteer women’s service organization founded in 1890. It is dedicated to securing America’s future through historic preservation, better education for the youth of America, and promoting patriotism.

The local chapter was named after Sarah Pound. “In selecting the name of the new chapter, the membership chose to honor Sarah Pound who was a member of one of the three original families who settled Dripping Springs.” DAR Chapter Regent Marilyn McGlamery said. “Our chapter organized with 83 members, which makes it one of the largest new chapters ever in Texas.”

At its organizing meeting in November, the local chapter officers were installed by Texas DAR State Vice Regent Susan Tillman, and organizing members were installed by Texas DAR State Organizing Secretary Marcy Carter-Lovick. Guest speaker United States Air Force Colonel Robert Garland (retired) gave an inspiring talk on “The Gift of America.”

To be eligible for membership, a woman must be at least 18 years of age, and be able to document her lineage to an ancestor, either male or female, who aided the cause of American Independence through military, civil or patriotic service. Women interested in becoming a member are asked to contact DAR Registrar Susan Finley at (512) 331-0356. Other inquiries about the Sarah Pound Chapter should be directed to McGlamery at marilyn@1791.com.

Bi-monthly meetings of the Sarah Pound Chapter will be held at the Terrace Club at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoons, from September to May. The next two regular meetings will be held on March 18 and May 20, and are open to any woman interested in exploring membership.
