The Burke Center for Youth in Driftwood is getting a new pole shelter for its livestock trailers thanks to an Eagle Scout project spearheaded by Hudson Debish.

Hudson said he chose the Burke Center for several reasons - including its critical role in helping to support boys who are going through the foster care system. In addition, his older brother also did his Eagle Scout project there.

“The Burke Center provides an amazing service for so many kids,” Hudson said. “They rely on community support and generosity so that they can be successful.”

Hudson said building the structure will take about six weekends, and about 30 scouts are expected to volunteer for the effort. The cost of the project is $6,000.00, and it should be completed in March 2026.

“The shelter will support the interaction by allowing trailers and the trucks to be parked underneath to be kept out of the weather in times of need and also allow the trailers and trucks to endure many years out of the Texas sun,” Hudson said.

Hudson said he hopes that the project helps show the youth at the Burke Center that there are people who care and who want to help.

“They come from something hard, but we want to show we care and there is good in the world,” Hudson said.

Hudson said he raised money for the project by speaking to different organizations in the community, including the American Legion, Dripping Springs VFW, Dripping Springs BBQ Club, Justice Crane Services, McCoys, The Capitol Rod and Gun Club, Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and some private philanthropists.

Hudson said he is excited to see the project finished and to see what he and his fellow scouts can accomplish together.

“We will be able to see this structure for a long time and remember that we can do big things if we really want to,” Hudson said.
