When you are playing the No. 1 basketball team in the state it is expected the climb will be steep. However, the Lady Tigers found it to be a sheer cliff. Their first five were insurmountable and the final was a one-sided 71-27. The Lady Tigers, as usual, gave it their all and never quit. It was just the talent gap being so wide. During the second half when the reserves were seeing action it was obvious the Lady Tigers could compete and closed the gap.
In the first half the Lady Chaps just controlled all the action. Their ballhawking ability kept the Lady Tigers from getting the ball (26 turnovers) or a shot. Westlake, luckily were off on their threes early but seldom missed layups and other shots from the paint. The first quarter ended 22-6. The second was a 21-0 shutout making it 43-6 at the break. It was 16-56 after three.
The Lady Tigers finished the season with a record of 19-12 and 4-8 in district. As the last home game, the seven seniors were honored along with their parents. It was a nice ceremony for a special group. As most know, the girls program has struggled since 2020. This group of seniors were willing to hang in there during the tough times and with their senior leadership came through with a strong winning record. The foundation they formed will bode well for the program and the seven returnees. The seniors are Chaela Luelling, Sloan Geck, Ella Beatty, Chloe Lightfoot, Caitlin Lightfoot, Harper Teague and Bailey Rogers.
