A not so funny thing happened on the way to the Tigers chance for their first district win. After taking a 50-36 lead early in the fourth quarter the Tigers effort cratered with a 60-58 loss to Del Valle the result. This basketball game was rift with tons of “gimme” shots missed by each. Had just half been made the game would have been in the 80’s. The Tigers have three more chances to notch that first victory.
All night long, each team played a fast-paced game and aggressively went for the layup basket. Accuracy was not at a premium but attempts were. A wild period that finally ended with the Tigers trailing 15-11. The Tigers caught fire in the second with the help of Rushton Budge and four of his teammates to blow out to a 32-24 lead at the break.
It was Solomon Igharo’s turn to keep the fire burning in the third and his eight pushed the lead to 48-36 after three. Then it was on to the fateful fourth. The Cardinals kept pecking away at the lead aided greatly by Tigers fouls. A major one proved to be a technical that cost the Tigers their leading scorer. The Tigers were desperately trying to hang on to the 58-55 lead but lost the free throw battle. DV 5-6, DS 0-6.
Vs DV: Grant Reagan 16, Budge 11, Amyron Hurst 11, Igharo 11, Will Gardiner 3, Liam Lawson 3, Grant Gillum 2, Isaac Terry 1.
