The Science Mill museum in Johnson City is offering two educational and entertaining STEM activities for families during the month of February.
This Saturday, Feb. 7, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Marcos Rodriguez of Greater Goods Coffee Company will lead an interactive workshop that invites guests to explore coffee the way professionals do - through smell, taste, and science.
After learning about coffee’s chemistry, origin, and extraction methods, participants will experience a guided tasting of eight freshly roasted coffees from around the world.
This Sips & STEM event will include guided smelling and tasting (cupping) techniques, freshly ground coffee to explore aroma, side-by-side coffee comparisons, a structured tasting period with breaks for questions, and partnered tasting and sensory note sheets for reflection.
Sips & STEM is offered for ages 18+. Tickets for this activity are $18 and must be purchased in advance, and do not include general admission to the museum.
Then, on Saturday, Feb. 14, the museum will host an Engineering Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This hands-on experience is designed to spark curiosity and creative problem-solving.
Visitors will build, test, and experiment through engaging engineering challenges led by engineers from the Austin Branch of the Texas Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Engineering Day is designed for all ages and is included with admission.
