Both of the Dripping Springs soccer teams have finished up their pre-district schedule and have opened their district play in pursuit of a playoff berth. With the big cold spell bearing down on the area for the weekend, the two teams made a great decision in moving their district game with Austin Akins up a day early. As it turned out the front came earlier in the day on Friday and they would have been playing in rain, fog and cold.
Girls Soccer: The Lady Tigers in the final week before district hosted their own tournament, the Hill Country Showcase that included the JV and freshmen teams. The varsity ended up 2-0-1 against Ridge Point, Stratford and SA Johnson.
Vs Ridge Point: 1-0; Josie Hardin with an assist from Addy Novosad scored in the 66th minute for the victory.
Vs Stratford: 1-1: Stratford scored late in the half. Lily Ruff (Rachel Darilek) scored to tie it up when the Lady Tigers successfully changed strategy to get more shots in second half.
Vs SA Johnson: 2-0: Bailey Stephenson (Shae Sisson) scored in the 12th minute and Juanita Diaz (Isa Guerrero) in the 34th for the win.
JV vs Anderson: 1-0: Lily Webb (Annaleigh Ferrara) scored in second half.
Vs Vandegrift: 2-0: Webb (Chloe Sprockett) and Gemma Mazzantini, penalty kick.
9th vs Johnson JV: 2-0: Kinley Clark (Emmie Martini); Gracie Kalina.
VS Anderson JV: 1-0: Colleen Andren (Karrington Cox).
The district opener against Austin Akins was a no contest as both games ended by the 8-0 mercy rule. Varsity: Stephenson completed the hat trick by scoring three goals.
