Evidence the Lady Tigers basketball team is continuing to fight hard and improve their performances as the season winds down came in their game with Austin High. The Lady Tigers are young and I know they are eager to stay in the program and come back next year stronger than ever to contend in the playoff world.

The last time the Lady Tigers played Austin, they took it on the chin 65-42. Not this time. It was a very fast-paced, action packed game from the beginning to the end. The final buzzer was a heartbreaking 60-56 loss. Two things led to the defeat. Early on they had trouble taking care of the ball. It did not cost them that much in opponent points but did keep them from scoring more points. The area that cost the most was the points scored in the paint. Austin controlled this area and they managed to score 36 of their points there.

After exchanging leads several times, the Lady Tigers surged ahead and then held off Austin 14-12 after one. It was much the same for the second period before Austin went to the locker room holding a 27-25 advantage. Both teams kept the nets busy as both scored 18. Austin maintained their margin at 45-43. Austin early went out five, then the Lady Tigers worked it back to two (50-52). It went back to seven (50-57). DS made another push to three before time expired. A 6-0 advantage in free throws made in the fourth proved the edge. In the other game with Austin Akins, the Lady Tigers went on a scoring rampage to take a 91-19 win. No stats were available at press time.

Scoring: Chaela Luelling 14, Bailey Rogers 11, Ella Beatty 10, Lily Aleshire 8, Avery Ames 8, Avery Taylor 3, Camille Brown 2. Reb: Rogers 10, Aleshire 4, Luelling 4, Ames 4. Assts: Ames 5, Luelling 4. Stls: Rogers 3.
