Tigers fall to Westlake

The Tigers boys basketball team is finding district play not to their liking. Despite playing hard and giving their all, they remain winless in district. However, Westlake proved they had more talent in this game than the Tigers and there wasn’t much they could do in the 61-46 loss.

It was a fast-paced game from the onset, but the taller Chaparrals were able to control the ball and the play. Time and time the ball-hawking Chaps stole the ball away from the Tigers. Neither team found hitting the basket easy in the opening quarter. No one was bashful about shooting but they just would not go in. It was like someone had sneaked in and installed the rebound rings. Four minutes deep Westlake held a 3-0 lead. From that point DS would make a push to get back in the game. It was 7-11 after one.

The Tigers were able to get it as close as four (14-18) but Westlake just steadily kept moving ahead, with the half ending 22-31. The second half was much the same. The Tigers would compete and keep the difference consistent, but never imposed a threat to Westlake’s lead. It was 49-33 after three. Westlake started sitting on their lead in the fourth and caused the Tigers to have to commit fouls to try and get the ball back. It is a strategy that coaches think they have to do, but there comes a time when all it does is distort the game’s outcome. It is rare there is a positive outcome.

DS scorers: Rushton Budge 15, Grant Reagan 11, Isaac Terry 9, Grant Gillum 4, Will Gardiner 3, Amyron Hurst 2, Judah Satterfield 2.
