It was a key 26-6A district basketball game for Dripping Springs. In a lot of ways, it was a playoff-berth game and the atmosphere was such. It was one of the few times both sides of the gym were filled with enthusiastic fans.
Both teams came out of the gate with competitive natures. In the end, the difference in this game proved to be Bowie’s uncanny success from the three-range. They outhit the Lady Tigers 12-5 in that category. The Lady Tigers took a 7-5 lead midway of the first before Bowie hit four threes in a row to take a 19-10 first quarter lead.
That meant they had to battle from behind the rest of the way. And battle the Lady Tigers did. Threes fed the Bowie lead to as much as 14 points in the second. DS never quit, getting it back to 37-30 at half.
The push got it to within three early in the third before Bowie pushed back, finishing the quarter ahead 52-46. The Lady Tigers were unable to close the gap as the game ended 63-56.
In close games there are usually small things that make the difference. In addition to the three problem, DS did not take care of the ball early and lost the turnover battle (14-5) plus missing points at the line (11-19). For sure, the Lady Tigers will need to win this one next time.
