Mercer Dancehall closing after 12 years

It’s time for the last dance for Mercer Dancehall. The Dotin family, which opened the venue 12 years ago, announced that they have sold the property. New Year’s Eve will be their final day in business. They’ll be open from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., and musical guest Bob Appel will be there to sing the last song.

On their Facebook account, Nicholas Dotin said the dance hall had been up for sale for a year.

“Up until this time, we really hadn’t had anybody. We’ve just had tire kickers and looky-loos,” Dotin said. “I know it’s going to make a lot of y’all sad, but it makes Gay and I very happy. We have sold the dance hall.”

Dotin invited customers to come out for the final shows of the year, which include Weldon Henson on Dec. 27, Fourth Sunday Matinee with Monte Good on Dec. 28, and on Dec. 31, The Last Dance - New Year’s Eve with Bob Appel.

All shows are 18 and up. General admission is available at the door the day of the show. For the Last Dance, tickets should be purchased in advance at mercerdancehall.com.

Mercer Dancehall opened in February of 2013 in downtown Dripping Springs. However, five years later, after their landlord passed away, they lost their lease and had to find a new location. They decided to rebuild their dancehall on RR12. Unfortunately, just a few years later, COVID hit, dealing the family another blow. Dotin thanked their customers for supporting them through it all.

“We’ve been through hell and high water, back and forth, having to move, having to build a new location,” Dotin said. “But it’s time for Gay and I to ride off into the sunset. As they say, the cowboy rides away. God bless y’all for your support.”
