A new Library on Wheels is coming to the area thanks to the Dripping Springs Community Library (DSCL). This outreach vehicle is designed to bring books, technology, and programs directly into neighborhoods and community spaces.
Library Director Mindy Laird said the Library on Wheels will help bring the library’s programs and resources to more people, so that even those who have obstacles to visiting the library can have access. This could include young people, seniors, those with disabilities, and those who lack reliable transportation.
“Our region is wide and spread out. The ETJ (extra territorial jurisdiction) is 110 sq miles,” Laird said. “An outreach vehicle lets us deliver STEM labs, story times, cultural programs, and resources anywhere, meeting patrons where they are.”
Laird said this is also a creative way to help the library reach more people without overburdening the current facility.
“Our community has outgrown our current building,” Laird said. “Dripping Springs is expanding quickly, and we’re at capacity.”
The outreach vehicle also reflects the library’s belief that innovative programming should travel, Laird said. They are currently raising funds for this effort, and have a $100,000 challenge match that will match every dollar donated for the Library on Wheels.
