Community invited to participate in free science activities at two local breweries

PHOTO BY LAURIE ANDERSON Seasons of Science will host an event at Roughouse Brewing on Dec. 7.

Hands-on science activities are coming to two local breweries this weekend, Dec. 6-7.

These free events are sponsored by Seasons of Science, an outreach program from Texas State University’s Department of Biology, and the Hays County Master Naturalists. Community members of all ages are invited to explore seasonal changes, winter wildlife, and hands-on nature learning in an outdoor setting.

Hosted at two local partners — The Shady Llama and Roughhouse Brewing — this winter’s “Sensing Nature” events are designed to connect families with their natural surroundings.

Event Highlights

• Engage with winter-themed science activities

• Learn about local plants and wildlife at interactive education tables

• Try hands-on seasonal crafts and games

• Join guided nature explorations

• Enjoy time outdoors with family, friends, and local small businesses

In addition, participants can receive $5 off their tab for completing a short on-site survey.

These events are part of an ongoing effort to make science enjoyable, accessible, and community-centered. Families can participate at their own pace through drop-in stations, crafts, and guided activities held throughout the afternoon.

The first event will be Saturday, Dec. 6 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Shady Llama, 18325 Ranch Rd 12, Wimberley, TX 78676.

The second event is Sunday, Dec. 7 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Roughhouse Brewing, 680 Oakwood Loop, San Marcos, TX 78666.
