The Dripping Springs High School Tiger Band takes the field during the UIL State Marching Contest in San Antonio.
The Dripping Springs Tiger Band has had a busy few weeks with marching competitions. On Nov. 3-4, they competed at the UIL 6A State Marching Contest, taking home 14th place. This marks Dripping Springs’ eighth consecutive — and 20th overall — appearance at the UIL State Marching Contest. The Tiger Band is one of only ten Texas high schools across all classifications to have qualified for the state contest at least 20 times.
The Tiger Band advanced to the state contest after earning a runner-up finish at the UIL Area D Marching Contest on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Kelly Reeves Stadium in Round Rock. The Tiger Band scored a total of 17 points from five judges during the preliminary round, placing second out of 26 competing bands. Due to weather, the area finals were canceled, and the top five bands from the preliminaries advanced to the state contest. Round Rock Cedar Ridge claimed the area title with 12 points, followed by Dripping Springs (17), San Antonio Reagan (19), Buda Johnson (22), and San Antonio Johnson (25).
In other news, the band competed in the Bands of America San Antonio Super Regional Championship on Nov. 8 and placed 12th out of 71 Texas High School Bands. Now, they are on to the Grand Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana on Nov. 13-15. This is the first time in the school’s history that the band has advanced this far in the competition.
